This stall in the Hougang neighbourhood has a pretty long history (20 years and counting), with generally positive online reviews thus far. These were at the back of my mind as my group of three foodies made the journey up north for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Although it was off-peak timing, our wait from order to food arrival still took close to 20 minutes.
First impressions were that the portions were generous - each main came with a big portion each of shoestring fries, coleslaw, baked beans and half a garlic toast. The chicken chop ($6.50) was sizeable, too, and was served with a savoury, thick sauce. While some parts were crispy, I could taste some burnt ends as well. The meat was juicy, though, to their credit. Overall, it tasted the best out of the three we ordered.
The breaded fish for the fish & chips ($6.50) were over-fried as well, and we could taste a burnt smell with every mouthful. A disappointing meal for my hungry daughter.
Perhaps we caught them on an off-day, but our experience was a little underwhelming. The weight of expectations was heavy and unfortunately, the stall failed to deliver on the day. A better experience awaits us next time, hopefully.
