Albert Street Prawn Noodles 亚峇街虾面

There are 2 prawn noodles stalls here at Old Airport Road Food Centre, a few stalls apart on the same row. These days, the queue for either stall is nowhere near their heyday. But still, we have to respect the long history both stalls have.

Albert Street Prawn Noodles’ stretches back to 1963. Up until the 1970s, Albert Street was famous for its bars, medicine shops, food stalls and was considered a tourist attraction. The roots of this stall were entrenched there. Today, Albert Street is just a pedestrian mall that is no longer open to vehicular traffic.

Prices have increased to $6/$9/$12/$17/$22 - the smallest portion gets you 4 halved prawns and a couple of pork ribs. The soup is sweet-savoury and prawns are not overcooked. Sauce for the noodles are vinegar-based which I liked; but I would have personally preferred for the chilli to have more heat. Ribs were a mix of fatty & lean. Not stellar stuff, but it should get your prawn noodles craving fixed.

Service is friendly and you get called 帅哥 or 美女 once you get near the vicinity of the stall. So if you get a kick out of being called that, that’ll be another reason to patronise. 😂
