First impression counts big for me, and when you are treated as sincerely & politely like I was at Jing Mei Big Prawn Noodles, the feel-good factor works up your appetite right away.
I must say the owner takes great pride in his food presentation as well. He takes care to toss the noodles in the sauce thoroughly, while the prawns & ribs are laid out immaculately before the final garnish of spring onions & shiny lard croutons on top. The soup also had a nice, orange-hued layer of prawn oil.
So much promise from the outlook then. But alas, while I must say the ingredients were all fresh, the sauce & chilli that complemented the noodles were just lacking that extra oomph. Even the soup felt on-point at first sip, but lacked that lingering, prawny after-taste that I was hoping it’d have.
A little room to be better, then - nothing that an earnest, improvement-seeking cook cannot overcome. Making a mental note to swing by for a deserving 2nd round in due course.
