AC Kafe has been part of Jewel Changi's retail line-up ever since it was opened in 2019. It is Action City's flagship designer toys themed cafe and houses an impressive display of BE@RBRICKS as well as other art toys by Action City.
There are 2 sections to the eatery. On one section, there is an impressive gallery showcasing the toys - in particular the aforementioned BE@RBRICKS, the readily-identifiable pop culture bear collaborations with its signature shape that come in 3 different sizes. For toy enthusiasts, this enclave is probably a dream-come-true as you can get to dine among your favorite characters. Alternatively, you may bring them home by selecting the blind boxes available for purchase.
On the other side is the dining section, which serves a western-centric menu. For a cafe, the standard of the food in terms of taste and presentation is at a pretty high level - most of the food that we ordered was at the very least on-point. Tip: try to snare a seat nearer the back of the cafe to enjoy a quite spectacular view of Jewel's iconic HSBC Rain Vortex - the world's tallest indoor waterfall!
The Food
 |
Wafu Salad ($9.90) |
The Wafu Salad consists of mixed greens, silken tofu, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, sweet corn and wakame seaweed tossed in a Japanese-style dressing. The bright colors alone are enough to stimulate your appetite. As an appetizer, it is substantial but not entirely filling - so that you'll have room for what's to come.
 |
Crispy Chicken Wings ($14.90) |
The fried chicken wings come in 3 drums and 3 wings. While freshly-fried and succulent on the inside, the flavour of the coating was quite run-of-the-mill. A good-to-have though not a must-order.
 |
Seafood Bisque with Toast ($23.90) |
With a smooth and velvety texture, the seafood bisque came with tiger prawns, white clams and squid rings. Sweet and savoury all at once with the seafood adding an umami meatiness, the 4 accompanying sections of buttered toasts were perfect to soak up all that creamy goodness.
 |
Oyako Don ($14.90) |
The Oyako Don consisted of chicken slices and eggs simmered in an umami-rich sauce and subsequently poured over a rice bowl. A comforting, if not spectacular, meal that was thoughtfully accompanied by a couple of chicken gyoza, pickles, miso soup and sliced fruits.
 |
Grilled Salmon Toast ($24.90) |
I was genuinely impressed with the size of the grilled salmon, for this price. I would have preferred this a little more undercooked but nevertheless, it was still good. It was served on a bed of sauteed cherry tomatoes and asparagus plus a blob of tartar sauce, and is one of the value-for-money eats on the menu, in my opinion.
 |
Mentaiko Seafood Pasta ($23.90) |
Mentaiko is ever-present on cafe menus in Singapore these days. We've heard of mentaiko fries, mentaiko prawns and even mentaiko bread spread. It goes well with rice, sushi, noodles and basically any type of carbo, and it was seamlessly incorporated into this seafood pasta. The tiger prawns, squid and white clams were fresh, while the al-dente pasta tasted superbly with the generous amount of flying fish roe on top. This was my favorite dish over here.
 |
Meat Lover Hawaiian Pizza ($16.90) |
Hawaiian pizzas are a kids' favorite, and the version here comes with chicken, pepperoni and turkey ham. It could have done with a lot more cheese, and for a "meat lover" pizza, I certainly expected more chunks of meat.
 |
Burger and Chips ($19.90) |
The burger patty came with caramelised onions, melted cheese and a slice of tomato in a house sauce, that was served between two brioche buns. It's a little heavy on the sauces, but the patty's beefy aroma still shone through. My nephew liked the burger so much that he wolfed it down even before I had a second bite.
All in, AC. Kafe serves food that even a non-concept stall would be proud of. Comparing it with the quality of other concept eateries I had been to, such as the tokidoki pop-up in Orchard Central a few years ago and the Cocomelon one at Swissotel in 2021, I would say the standard is much higher. Prices here lean slightly on the higher side, but that's the case for 90% of the eateries in Jewel Changi.
A haven for fans of BE@RBRICKS, with food quality that wouldn't disappoint.
