I have visited Bangkok Bites umpteen times ever since it opened just over a year ago (in December 2022). In fact, I've tried most of what they offer, and their menu is pretty extensive!
Part of what appeals to me is its casual dining concept, where I can get a quick fix for Thai food just a stone's throw away from where I stay within the Queenstown neighbourhood. From my casual conversations with the owners, the kitchen is helmed by a Thai crew, lending credence to the authenticity of their fare.
The place where the eatery sits on used to be occupied by another owner selling breakfast bee hoon, which didn't exactly take off. Since the new owners took over, the place has started coming to life and it is not a surprise to find the place packed to the brim during peak hours.
Here's a little sharing of what they offer and the dishes that keep me coming back.
The Food
Draft beer is available here - you can get a 3.0 litre tower of Heineken for just $49 nett during Happy Hour between 11am to 5pm - as well as several brands of chilled bottled beer, so it's not surprising to find a good range of snack bites & fried food on the menu. Crispy spring rolls, fried chicken wings (mid-wings split down the middle, which my daughter absolutely adores) and the Thai fish cakes & prawn cakes are the popular ones, but I'd recommend the Deep-fried Squid which is done very well. Using squid of the right size and cut into rings of the right thickness, they remain succulent to the bite even after high-temperature frying, going very well with the accompanying Thai sweet chilli dip.

I've always liked Thai-style deep-fried garlic pork, or moo tod kratiem. It's a simple yet delicious dish especially if you love the fragrance of garlic oil infused into your meats. Here, the Deep-Fried Garlic Pork is good, but I like the chicken version even more, for the tenderness.
Apart from that, there's also a good variety of stir-fry meat dishes such as the classic Basil with Minced Pork (or Chicken) and Cashew Nut Chicken.

Whenever I visit a Thai eatery, I must have the Thai-style omelette (also known as khai jiao). It's basically frying eggs with fish sauce in plenty of oil so that the edges turn crispy. While it's definitely not the healthiest dish around, I tend to give myself a bigger leeway for the occasional indulgence!
The Minced Meat Crispy Omelette here at Bangkok Bites hits the spot, every time. It is browned nicely, always with oh-so-crisp edges, and has a fluffy & light texture in the middle. Because the temperature of the oil is high enough, the resulting omelette is never soaked in oil as well.

When you're here, try the Thai-style Grilled Pork Skewers (or Moo Ping). A popular Thai street food, it is salty-sweet-savoury-smoky all at once. I like it that you can still savor the texture of the meat here and it's not over-minced into a fishcake-like texture that some eateries do it. Lightly dip each skewer into their garlicky chilli sauce for a really tasty appetiser. |

From their list of soups, the Tom Yum Red Soup and Fish Maw Soup are my favorites. There is a choice of red or clear for the tom yum soup, the difference being the addition of evaporated milk & coconut cream. The flavors from the lemongrass, galangal and kaffir leaves are profound in the soup, enhanced by the seafood such as squid and prawns. The end-product is a tangy and spicy broth that is both savory and addictive.

Thai-style fish maw soup (or kra por pla) has a slightly more complex and umami taste as compared to the Chinese style. It is just as starchy, but sweeter to the taste. The fish maw used are also much smaller and cut into shorter sections, thus ensuring that there’s something in every spoonful.

The curries here are pretty decent here too, and you could choose between chicken or pork. Good for sharing with your dining companions.

The seafood/vegetable stir-frys are generally good. I’d have recommended the Braised Pork Hock too,if they had been more meticulous in removing the hairs. |

If you’re on your own and just want an individual serving of carbo, they have several options as well - most popular of which are the Phad Thai & Pineapple Fried Rice. Prices are pegged very reasonably, making them a fuss-free, convenient yet economical meal option. |
